Living in Chillicothe, Ohio A few memories
Some of the earliest memories Lisa had came from this home. The address was 10 Coventry Court she remembers the big garden they had and also a time she was playing down the street with friends and saw her father’s car come home but disregarded it and instead went in to play in her friend’s basement some more. Bad news. She got in real trouble when she got home (parents had gone to 10 different homes looking) because of worry and disobeying the rule to come home when she saw her dad’s car.
At Christmas time the four children Keith, Lisa, Craig, and Kevin, with their parents went to get a Christmas tree. Lisa saw the magic of life in the snow coming down on those trees as she walked through them. The perfect tree was put on the top of the station wagon and off they went up a hill. The tree promptly rolled off and Lisa was so upset and worried about it falling again that she held onto a branch when her father stuck it in the back of the station wagon and they drove off again. She was around six years old and held on fast so they wouldn’t lose their Christmas tree.
Lisa’s dad was the hero in her eyes, when the power went out and they were cooking on a camp stove in their kitchen. For no discernable reason the stove caught fire. Her dad picked up the stove and threw it in the backyard in the snow.
All four of the children got mumps at the same time, they had chicken pox at the same time, and they had measles at the same time. That was the way it was in the day. The moms had a lot of care and worry until the children were safe.
When Lisa was six years old she got her very first bike. It was a blue Schwinn 24-inch girls’ bike and she learned without training wheels as her dad felt she could learn without. He would perch her on the bike, run along side her as she put her feet on the pedals and started pedaling until she fell and said, “Let’s do it again Dad” and pretty soon she learned to ride that bike. They lived in a court in a quiet residential area where it was safe to ride bikes. Shirley said Keith had a red boy’s bike; Craig had a red tricycle and Keith a push toy walker in 1964.
She also remembered school pictures. She took her picture, when asked she told them her name and then a few days later she got back in the picture line and told them her name was Linda. She can’t remember why, just one of those silly things kindergartener’s does.
Her memories are getting stronger and more detailed from about six and seven on. She recalls details and has clear memories of her life as a little girl.
